Did that title catch your attention? Yes, it’s a typo alright, but in this case it’s only a joke. I recently relocated my graphic / web design and development company to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and was thumbing through a community association newsletter and saw an ad with that very same headline, except in this case, it was for real. (Yes, I was forced to join a community association and yes, I was reviewing the ads in it.) I really wanted to scan it in and share but I think that’s borderline mean and I think you get the point. OK, now I create many a marketing material and there is always a typo or revision. It’s just the way it is–I consider it job security. But if you make a claim, you better mean it.
Often times when clients ask about how to brand themeselves or their business I tell them just be transparent and be yourself. People are very smart these days and will know if you are what you say you are. Now this particular ad with this typo was for a service that I may never need, but nonetheless it’s a prime example of how content is king and should be taken serious. Take copy for what it is: the first thing your readers/demographic use to evaluate your services. Content is king and more people should take the time and money to have well-written, search engine optimized copy crafted. The investment will pay off in the long-run. Even if you are a good writer, you may not know how to write for a search engine AND a human. It’s actually quite a challenge. Here are 3 quick tips:
- One of the most important things you can provide on your website is original content. Original content, information that is unique to your website, is one of the most effective ways to improve search rankings and build a loyal following.
- Proof, proof, and proof again. Make sure the content on your site is grammatically correct. Not only will you discredit yourself with your readers with typos and poor grammar on your site, but search engines can also rate your content on its reading level as well. So don’t get penalized for silly typos.
- Successful SEO copywriting, with targeted, optimized keywords and distinct calls to action are the building blocks of online success. Every time you use SEO copywriting to create an optimized, information-rich Web page, you have the opportunity to achieve natural search rankings that will attract new customers and boost your ROI.
