This site was originally a Drupal to WordPress conversion and it had hundreds and hundreds of pages. It was a massive and unorganized site. Each listing’s URL needed to be assigned its category and retain its URL and content/images. A very complex migration script needed to be written as well. Users found the original site that needed to be redesigned hard to navigate. Site admins had a hard time updating it and it was very costly to add new functionality. It was time for a redesign.
We first had to understand the market and the services provided. Then we needed to understand what the users were looking for and try to prioritize that content. We created a very detailed spreadsheet outlining all the pages and categories and spent weeks organizing the structure. Once the structure was approved we designed over 15 unique custom page templates and began building the custom functionality and imported hundreds of pages of content and made the site look just like the prototypes. Finally, we did several weeks of testing and QA prior to the final launch.
THE RESULT
The result is a site that is easy to navigate for users looking for places and things to do in the area. The search features are intuitive and from the feedback of users on the first site, we made changes that improved overall site traffic and reduced bounce rates. In addition, site admins were able to edit and maintain the site much easier and development costs decreased for them significantly. All in all the project was a success and the new site was very well received.
